Schedule 2024

The camp site will be open Thursday – Sunday, June 20th-July 23rd, 2024.  Thursday is optional for early arrival and setup, or to get an early start on your projects. The first all-up coordinating meeting is 7:30pm on Friday, and our art show is Saturday at 8:00pm. One group meal is provided Saturday 6-7pm.

For those of you who want MORE DETAIL and explanation:

DAY 1:  Thursday, June 20th, 2024

  • Early arrival, personal camp setup, and lab setup:   You may arrive any time after noon Thursday to get your camp set up, enjoy the park, start working on your project, or help set up the pop-up makerspace.  Camp placement is first come first serve, but please be mindful of designated areas on the layout map.  
  • Early Arrivals Meetup, 8pm – midnight, at the group fire (by the kitchen):  Early arrivals meetup, with casual conversation about project ideas, hang out!

DAY 2:  Friday, June 21st, 2024

  • Arrival and personal camp set up, all day:  Arrive, set up your camp, enjoy the park.
  • Open Makerspace, all day, all night:  The makerspace will be open all day and night, you may dive in to your project-ing at any time, or wait until our coordinating meetup at 7:30pm.  In the makerspace, there will be wifi (limited to project-related browsing), basic electronics tools and supplies, and miscellaneous art supplies to spark creativity.
  • Kickoff Meeting with welcome remarks, introductions, and team formation, 7:30pm-8:30pm, at the Makerspace.  To get the most out of Electric Sky, please come to this all up coordinating meetup.  We will provide a brief overview of the event, and people will have the opportunity to share their ideas, brainstorm new ideas, recruit others to help, and form teams.
  • Workshop #1: Soldering 101, Fri 8:30 – 9:30pm. Hosted by Andrew Cole. Come to this workshop to learn the basics of soldering while you assemble a light-up LED thingy to take with you.
  • Group fire, (by the kitchen), 9pm to 2am-ish.  Join the fire for conversation and ideas.

DAY 3: Saturday, June 22nd, 2024

  • Open Creativity Lab, all day, all night.
  • Workshop #1.5: 9:00am-10:00am. Pysanky Egg Decor Craft, hosted by Sue Copenhaver and Emily Martin. Learn Ukrainian egg painting.
  • Workshop #2: 10:00am- 11:30am. Playing with Wind: Make an LED Pinwheel or Mini Wind Turbine, hosted by Shelly Farnham. This is a very kid friendly workshop, draw and assemble a pinwheel, or take it to the next level and make a small wind turbine that powers an LED.
  • Workshop #3: 11:30am-1:00pm. Vision Cubing, hosted by Falona Joy and Genevieve Tremblay. Dive into this transformative experience where you will learn a new contemplation and crafting technique!
  • Workshop #4: 1:00pm-2:30pm. Augmented Environments, hosted by Jeff Brice. In this beginner workshop, Digital artist Jeff Brice will introduce the processes of making image-triggered augmented reality objects and environments.
  • Workshop #5: 3:00pm-5:00pm.Intro to Solar Energy in Art, hosted by Bruce Cooper. Unplug with solar energy!
  • Workshop #6: 5:00pm-6:30pm. De Light and the Everyday, hosted by Rebecca Cummins. Magical characteristics of sundials, rainbows, lenses and the camera obscura are explored with water, wine glasses, chalk, and a suitcase.
  • Group Meal from the Wok, 6:30pm-7:30pm. Everyone is invited to our group meal, cooked with love by James Robinson so you can focus on your projects before the show. Vegetarian options will be included.
  • Sun Wind Water Art Show and Party, 8:00pm – 11:00pm. This art show and party is free and open to the public, so invite all your friends!
  • Group fire (by the kitchen), 9:00pm to 2am-ish. Join the fire for conversation, celebration, and ongoing creativity.  Note to respect our neighbors, all music is turned down at 11pm.

DAY 4: Sunday, June 23rd, 2024

  • Personal camp take down. Please be out of your personal camp by noon. If you pack up early, consider helping us take down the makerspace, the art installations, and the kitchen!
  • Makerspace, art show, and kitchen take down, Noon- 5pm.  If you pack up your personal camp early, consider helping us take down the makerspace and cleaning the group kitchen!
